Transcription of Actual Mortgage - EBA 1/147, 148, 149, 150
This Mortgage made this 14th day of August in the year Eighteen hundred and ninety nine by us
William Chisely, Augustus Brown, William Grey, George Courtney, Thomas Foster, Moses Foster,
and John [?]Gilly as Trustees of Galilee M.E. Church and Moses Queen, William Toyer, Emanuel
Toyer, Benjamin Jackson and John Boone Trustees of John Wesley M.E. Church, and Philip Tolson,
Arthur Rich, Chapmann Gross and Armested Holly, Trustees

of Mt. Calvary M.E. Church all of St. Mary's County in the State of Maryland. Witnesseth, that
in consideration of the sum of Seventy-five Dollars now due from us the aforesaid Trustees and our
[?]successors holding the hereafter described property in trust for the benefit of the M.E. Church
to Joseph L. Davis and Thos. B. Davis trading as J.L.Davis & [?]Bus. We the aforesaid Trustees do
grant unto the said Jos. L. Davis and Thos. B. Davis all that ?lot for parcel of ground situate in
Fifth Election District of St. Mary's County in State of Maryland and described as follows: Being
the same property this day deeded or granted unto the above Trustees by Joseph L. Davis, Thos. B.
Davis and Annie J. Davis, the latters wife and is bounded by the property of Sophrouia Neal on North
Thomas D. Edwards on South Public Road leading from Charlotte Hall to Budds Creek on west and
extending back from said road a distrance of seventy yards said lot containing one acre. Provided
that if the aforesaid Trustees or their successors shall pay to Jos. L. Davis and Thomas B. Davis on
either of them for the firm of J.L. Davis & Bro the sum of seventy-five dollars with interest thereon
from date on before the expiration of thirty months from this day according to the tenor of the
promissory notes of even date herewith payable to the aforesaid J.L. Davis & Bro on order that is
to say three notes of twenty five dollars each with interest payable in eighteen twenty four and thirty
months from date and one note for interest on principal payable in twelve months then this mortgage
shall be void. And the aforesaid Trustees for themselves and their successors hereby covenant that
they will pay the aforesaid money according to the tenor of the notes aforesaid. And they further
covenant and agree with the siad Jos. L. Davis and Thomas B. Davis and their personal representatives
and assignes in like manner that in default of payment of said notes or any[?] of them, the said Jos.
L. Davis and Thos. B. Davis may enter and take possession of the property aforesaid.
Provided that until default of payment of the said notes or any of them the said Trustees or their
successors shall take possession of hold the premises in trust for the benefit of the Methodist
Episcopal Church of the United States and subject to its dicsipline usage and ministerial appointments.
And provided that if default shall be made in the payment of the money aforsaid or the interest thereon
at the time or in the manner aforesaid then it shall be lawful for the said Jos. L. Davis and Thos. B.
Davis to sell the said mortgaged premises by public auction for cash after giving at least twenty days
public notice of time, place and terms of sale in some newspaper publicshed in a foresaid County prior
to day of
