Transcription of Actual Property Deed

United States Stamp Fifty cents.

This deed made this eighth day of October in the year one thousand eight hundred and sixty eight by Luke P. Barber of Saint Mary's County, State of Maryland. [?]Witness, that in consideration of my desire to encourage and [?]assist the propogation of the Christian Faith and in consideration of the sum of one dollar current money, I herewith grant unto John Jackson, Charles Thomas, Moses Queen, Walter Yates, John Young, Gustavus Brown and Henry Brown, Trustees of the "Colored Methodist Episcopal Church" called "John Wesley Chapel." Located in the Fourth Election District of St. Mary's County, aforesaid and to their successors in trust, that said premises shall be used, kept maintained, and disposed of a a place of Divine Worship for the use of the ministry and membership of the Colored Methodist Episcopal Church of the United States of America. The following property to wit: a Lot of land called and known as Barber's Enclosure" containing one acre more or less together with all the present improvements therein.

State of Maryland, St. Mary's County to wit I hereby certify that on this eighth day of October in the year 1868, before me the subscriber a Justice of the Peace of the State of Maryland in and for the County aforesaid personally appeared Luke P. Barber, the grantor in the within deed and acknowledged said deed to be his act.
